Our VOLUNTEERS

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Board is involved with the day-to-day operations of Norwell Farms, oversees all programming, and works diligently to raise tax-deductible contributions in support of the mission.

We are proud to work alongside our fellow board members, staff, and volunteers. It is inspiring to watch that ah-ha moment that happens - when suddenly dirt under your fingernails starts to feel like a badge of honor or a freshly picked carrot takes your breath away.

We love to instill that same excitement and see it come to light when a member of the community embraces Norwell Farms as much as we do. Norwell Farms, at its core, brings these two things together - food and community - and we celebrate both!

Mari Creatini Bell
Co-Chair - NF Board since 2016

Back in 2009, in an effort to “become healthier,” she was introduced to gardening and eventually to permaculture, a process of designing and growing like nature. In 2016, she received her Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) and in 2017 her Advanced PDC. Mari joined the nonprofit Board in December 2016 and became one on the co-Chairs a year later. Mari has a B.S. in Architecture and is a Senior Estimator with over 13 years of experience in the commercial construction industry. She has also founded in 2014 and is still running the separate nonprofit, North East Premier League, which provides competitive field hockey opportunities for adults in the Boston area.

DeeDee Tobias
Co-Chair - NF Board since 2016

DeeDee is passionate about access to healthy food for all, and when she was looking for ways to be involved in the community, Norwell Farms was the perfect fit. She has her doctorate in nutrition epidemiology from Harvard, where she is now a professor, and conducts research on the benefits of healthy eating at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. DeeDee and her family are active around the South Shore, and enjoy kayaking the North River, the beach, hockey, and lacrosse. She is excited about what Norwell Farms brings to the community.

Sue Kirby
Treasurer, NF Board, since 2014

Sue began with Norwell Farms in 2014, serving as bookkeeper, eventually joining the Board as Treasurer. As a kid, Sue was raised on a “Gentleman’s Farm”, helping her family to plant, weed, harvest and “put up” all manner of vegetables and fruit. Her family eventually raised turkeys, chickens, pigs and sheep for the freezer, a process the whole family was involved in. Bee hives and flower gardens were also part of every day. After college, she headed for the big city to pursue a career in finance, and eventually landed in Norwell in 1997 with her husband, looking for a little more green space. Norwell Farms was an attractive volunteer venture for a person with a little knowledge and a love of home grown produce and great memories of homesteading.
